The images show one of our recent works: a luminous “window” that appears as people pass by, drawing attention to a space suspended between abandonment and possibility. The work was created after meeting local residents who, for decades, have fought to reopen a passage that connects their neighbourhood to a public park — a struggle that inspired us to reflect on the right to the city and shared spaces. This site had already been the focus of our research during our residency at the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U) between 2022 and 2023, when we began collaborating with B-Laden, a historic neighbourhood association, and several residents engaged with this forgotten place. Out of that dialogue came Sunflower Meadow (2023), a collective act of care that transformed the fenced-off path into a small garden of sunflowers and wildflowers — a gesture of reclaiming space through growth. The light installation continues that process, materialising the idea of a passage that is still closed yet vividly imagined: a temporary luminous threshold that reactivates the desire for connection and belonging.
