La vuoto de Prit e Garitin

“La vuoto de Prit e Garitin” is a site-specific installation designed for a ruin in a semi-abandoned village in Val Grana. The project takes shape in the heart of an area marked by depopulation, transforming an architectural void into a perceptual threshold, where what really matters is not presence, but absence.
In the old stable of Spirito and Margherita — known locally as “Prit” and “Garitin” — beams of light slowly turn on and off, guided by data collected from motion sensors distributed throughout the valley. However, it is not light that takes center stage, but darkness. It is precisely in the moments when nothing lights up that the work reveals its meaning: in the absence of light, the human and symbolic emptiness of the landscape is laid bare.
The installation thus becomes a silent machine that measures absence.
Each moment of darkness corresponds to an unspoken name, a house no longer inhabited, a time that has slipped away.
The ruin — the fragile body of a collective memory — becomes a living organism, breathing to the rhythm of abandonment.
It does not cry out, but listens.
It does not occupy, but reveals.
It does not show itself, but waits.
It is a work that asks us to be still — and to observe what is missing.
